What we do often defines who we are.
The work that we do increases our
confidence, gives structure and
meaning to our lives, promotes
independence, and provides a way
to give back to our communities.
Through the Supported Employment
program, The Salvation Army
assists those with developmental
disabilities and other special needs
to identify, choose, and maintain
jobs that maximize personal
interests and abilities. |

- Job coaches assess each person determining individual skills/interests.
- Job coaches search for potential employers and provide them with information about job adaptation as needed and about available incentives for hiring disabled individuals.
- Job coaches arrange for job interviews with potential employers who have a job that matches a person's abilities. Decisions to accept or reject job offers rest with potential employees.
- Job coaches work along side the new employees, orienting them to their work environment (i.e. job requirements, work rules, and performance expectations), and teaching how to apply skills and perform tasks.
- Job coaches will work as long or as short a time as is needed to get the new employees successfully settled into new jobs. After a period of time, job coaches phase out of the work location but can re-intensify their involvement in order to facilitate retention.
- Job coaches follow up with employees and employers to discuss job satisfaction and performance.

|
|
|
|
|
- Enclaves - small groups of people with disabilities who perform similar job functions at a company and who are supervised by staff from The Salvation Army.
- Mobile Work Crews - small groups of people with disabilities supervised by a Salvation Army staff person who do contract work for individuals or companies such as lawn care and building cleaning/maintenance.
- Entrepreneurial Opportunities - Some individuals may be encouraged and supported to pursue entrepreneurial work.
One of these employment options might be right for you.
